MIT Mystery Hunt Puzzle Index: Keyword Data

flats (NPL puzzles)

These are verse puzzles where the answers are words with some sort of wordplay relationship, and they are missing from the verse (typically replaced by other all-caps words, the cue words, which, when necessary, explain which word goes where). The wordplay relationships which flats use can appear in other types of puzzles without the actual verse that makes the puzzle a flat. Many of the wordplay types can be found as their own keywords in the Wordplay category including backswitches, charades, consonantcies, deletions, false flats, heteronyms, homophones, letter banks, letter changes, letter shifts, palindromes, rebuses, reduplications, reversals, and spoonerisms.
