trigrams

Although trigrams can refer to any manipulation of groups of three letters, there is a common puzzle type where you have to unscramble and reassemble messages which have been broken up into trigrams after removing any spaces and punctuation. If the message does not have a multiple of three letters, the final one or two letters are typically left as they are and placed at the end of the list of trigrams (which is typically alphabetized). In other cases the message(s) may be crafted to have a multiple of three letters so that there is no leftover. In still other cases, the puzzle may not be restricted to groups three letters long, but works in a similar way.
